{making a texture

I haven't made many textures, but I've decided to make a tutorial on how to make them.

1. So first I'll fill my background with a colour, so I've decided to fill it with purple (#7F007C to be exact).

2. I'll open up this stock image, which I got at Image After. I don't resize it at all, and below you can see how it looks on my canvas...

3. Now I want to blur this stock, so I got to filter>blur>gaussian blur and I set it at 4 pixels. Now I set to Colour burn at 80%, I then duplicate this layer and set it at 100% soft light. My image now looks like this...

4. Now I open up this stock, that I got from Romain's deviant art site. I drag it overtop all the layers of my texture and go to edit>transfrom>scale and my settings are 55% for both height and width. Now I got to filter>blur>motion blur, and my settings are angel:23 and distance:27. Now my settings are hard light at 70%. Now, I flatten my image (layer>flatten image). This is what my image now looks like...

5. Now I'll just use my gradient tool, if you don't know where the gradient tool is, you can see it here. My settings are soft light, 100% and you can see the gradient I chose below, it's a default photoshop gradient, so you should have it. I start down and drag up, but do it however you want, for your preference.

6. I usually do brush work on my textures, but I didn't really think it suited this texture, so I skipped that step, but just go crazy with brushes if you like when you're making a texture. Since I skipped the brush step, I'm going to do some filtering. So I duplicate the flattened image and go to filter>artistic>watercolour and my settings are brush detail:9, shadow intensity:1 and texture:2. Now my settings for the watercolour layer are soft light at 100%. I flatten my image and my texture now looks like this..

7. Now I duplicate my layer again, and go to filter>pixelate>crystallize and my cell size is 222. My blending options for this layer are soft light at 100%. Then I flatten the image. Now I'm happy with how this looks, so I'm done and the final result is this...
